The digital writings - the set of inscriptions that constitute the digital environments, whether texts, images, databases, algorithms ... - have somehow an architectural function. The editorialization is the set of dynamics that structure and organize these writings, it thus proceeds from an architectural gesture.
\r\n
Based on these hypotheses - which are the results of the seminar's work in recent years - we want to examine the nature of architectures in the digital age. What spaces do we inhabit? How can we interpret them? What theories of architecture could help us better understand these spaces?
\r\n
An architectural analysis of contemporary spaces must take into account both the organization of unconnected and connected objects and must therefore be concerned at the same time with organizations of pre-digital architectural elements - walls, windows, doors, roads, gardens - and digital: protocols, formats, platforms. How do the digital protocols - from TCP / IP to HTTP, to the protocols of instant messaging applications or Wikis - participate in the organization and layout of the world we inhabit? What values and visions of the world do they bear?
\r\n
To raise these themes, we would like to invite both experts in the digital domain, but also specialists in other forms of architecture, from architecture to engineering…
\r\n
Calendar :
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
15th November 2018 – session #1 : « Savoirs architecturaux et espaces numériques » – with Emmanuel Château-Dutier — session organized by Nicolas Sauret and Marcello Vitali-Rosati, University of Montreal.
\r\n
13th December 2018 – session #2 : « Services informationnels et élaboration du règlement.       "content_html": "
During the Open Acces international week, the CRIHN will celebrate its five years with an international symposium on the subjet: \"Thinking Digital Humanities Anew » under the direction of Emmanuel Chateau-Dutier, Enrico Agostini-Marchese, Cecily Raynor, and Michael E. Sinatra. The symposium will be held at the Carrefour des Arts et des Sciences of the University of Montréal.
\r\n\r\n
Keynote speakers:
\r\n\r\n
Eric Gidal (University of Iowa, USA); Anatoliy Gruzd (Canada Research Chair in Social Media Data Stewardship, Ryerson University, Canada); Fatiha Idmhand (Université de Poitiers, France); Elika Ortega (Northeastern University, USA); Marcello Vitali-Rosati (Chaire de recherche du Canada sur les écritures numériques, Université de Montréal, Canada)
\r\n\r\n
Since 2013, the CRIHN is engaged, through several projects, in a reflection over the two principal aims that motivate this first international symposium:
\r\n\r\n
On the practices plan: take stock of existing experiences by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of tools and platforms; experiment with the use of excavation and visualization tools; integrate these tools into ongoing and developing projects;
\r\n
At the theoretical level: to understand the impact of digital technology on the process of production and circulation of knowledge; define new reading / writing models for the humanities; deploy new content validation systems and foster new relationships between researchers, scientific communities and society.
\r\n\r\n
With the change of media, publication methods, mechanisms of visibility, access to information and circulation of content, it is the whole of our relationship to knowledge that is challenged. It is now part of a circular dynamic closely associating production, circulation and validation of knowledge.
\r\n\r\n
The call for papers for the conference \"Repenser les humanités numériques / Thinking the Digital Humanities Anew\" is based on the three axes of CRIHN's scientific programming built around the fundamental question of the transformation of human sciences by the digital humanities:
\r\n
\r\n
Axis 1: Production - Digital Writing and Editorialization
\r\n
Axis 2: Circulation - Digitization and recontextualization
\r\n
Axis 3: Validation - Legitimization of contents
\r\n
\r\n
We are soliciting communication proposals in French or in English relating to work in progress or work completed in relation to these three areas. Topics may include the following topics:
\r\n
\r\n
electronic editions;
\r\n
transformation of scholarly scientific publications;
\r\n
new forms of editorialization;
\r\n
digital museology;
\r\n
history of digital visual art and culture;
\r\n
linguistics and computer translation;
\r\n
analysis of digital social networks;
\r\n
geographic information system;
\r\n
visualization and interfaces;
\r\n
digital humanism;
\r\n
digital sociology;
\r\n
free access policy;
\r\n
pedagogy of the digital humanities;
\r\n
cyberinfrastructures;
\r\n
digital environmental studies.
\r\n
\r\n\r\n
Organizing committee:
\r\n\r\n
Emmanuel Chateau-Dutier (Professor of Digital Museology at the University of Montreal); Enrico Agostini-Marchese (Ph.D. student in French Litterature at the University of Montreal); Cecily Raynor (Professor of Hispanic Studies at McGill University); Michael E. Images that are at the center of the writing of contemporary cultures, strongly focused on the audiovisual. The filmmakers' experience is unique in addressing this issue. The cinema has developed by questioning ever more intensely the types of representation of the world and the relationships that it establishes with the spectators. At present, he is seizing technologies of the digital age as an industry, but draws on the most diverse cultural sources as it is an art modifying the writing of the world.
\r\n
Heir of the Nouvelle Vague, filmmaker François Ozon observes the uncertainties of our time, allowing us to reflect on the status of images to think about society. Each of her creations exalts the happiness of staging and presenting unique attitudes and lives that question our certainties. Ozon has a predilection for different scenes from the arts - literature, theater, music, cinema itself - and the idea of staging and performance. His fictions are marked by the mixing of genres and he produces a materialistic critique of digital life through a kind of artistic sampling.
\r\n
\r\n",

His work focuses on the relationship between avant-garde art and writing on one hand and communication studies and media history on the other. Inside the academy, he has been a professor in both English and Communication Studies departments. He has also worked professionally as a writer, editor, designer and publisher of print and new media. As a result, he takes an interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching, and is committed to the notion that universities need to search continually for ways to build connections to people, organizations and things outside of themselves.
\r\n",

      "content_html": "
Tim Fulford will discuss how he developed a digital edition of one of the earliest examples of what we now recognise as a tourist genre — the tour journal, sketchbook and scrapbook made by an early participant in Britain’s first organised tour. Robert Bloomfield’s Banks of Wye is a multi-media collection of texts, some private, some public, that tells us much about the relationship of aesthetics to the MS and print cultures, and to the nascent tourist industry, of nineteenth-century Britain. Fulford will give a virtual tour of the edition, and talk through some of the problems he solved in creating it.\r\n
\r\n
\r\nProfessor Fulford’s research lies in the area of literature in the Romantic era, in the contexts of colonialism, exploration, science, landscape, the picturesque, religion. He has published many articles and books on these topics, featuring such writers as William Wordsworth, S. T. Coleridge, Robert Bloomfield, Mary Robinson, William Cowper, Jane Austen and John Clare. Professor Fulford is currently preparing scholarly editions of the letters of Robert Southey and of Humphry Davy. His next monograph will be a study of the Late Poetry of the Lake Poets.\r\n
\r\n",
